What is warmer?

is knitting with a new color every other stitch (like fair isle and "twined knitting" or two end knitting (as seen here and here)) warmer then knitting with two strands of yarn together? I've tried both (aiming for warmth) but can't tell. Any ideas?

Hmmm... I think as long as there's the double thickness (carried along behind in fair isle) or 2 strands together it would be pretty close. I;m actually wondering if the fair isle would be a bit warmer simply because of the little bit of extra air space that could provide insulation. Aesthetically I think the fair isle type is definitely more pleasing.

JMO. (And I'm working on some scandanavian style mitts :-P )
